Human Barbie - "The Truth Is Coming"

When I first heard “The Truth Is Coming” by Los Angeles’ Human Barbie, I was struck by the raw and unfiltered dialogue that characterized the lyrics. Though it starts with bare synths and a mellow backbeat, the lyrics are immediately piercing, as they describe the relatable and true pain of falling short. Christopher Leopoldo, the artist behind Human Barbie, starts with a soft “hello,” before plunging into an arresting narrative that chronicles failure, giving up, and accepting deficiencies. Recorded with all analog equipment, “The Truth Is Coming” has that warmth that can only be captured through tape, particularly the wispy guitar riffs, which are surrounded and elevated by the track’s colorful and mythical psych-pop rhythm and harmonies.
