Chime School - "The End"

Chime School - "The End"

The Bay Area is the current center of the jangleverse. It’s home to several excellent bands that are carrying a certain high-toned brand of guitar pop deep into the 21st century. Chime School calls Oakland home and there’s a solid argument to make that they’re at the core of this burgeoning pop scene. The band is about to release their second album, The Boy Who Ran The Paisley Hotel, which, based on the current crop of singles and as its title suggests, will be chock full of chiming, Rickenbacker-driven melodies. The band’s latest single, “The End,” is a delight and previews what’s to come on the whimsical horizon.

If you peep the track listing for The Boy Who Ran The Paisley Hotel, you’ll see that “The End” is actually the first track on the record. It’s a fine, tongue-in-cheek commencement that likely sets the tone for the balance of the album. The track opens tenderly with subdued acoustic guitar strums before launching into a ringing 12-string jaunt. The song also features some moody atmospherics that’ll remind you of the feelings invoked by a waning summer afternoon, where the warm sun sets over the rolling hills just as a crisp ocean breeze sweeps through your hair.
