Donny Benet - “American Dream”
The political climate in the United States has global implications. Our leaders enact policy that impacts folks all over the world. The last decade has been particularly chaotic and troubling, especially with our unfortunate flirtation with fascism. So, it’s interesting to hear the perspective of Australian disco-funk king Donny Benet on his latest single, “American Dream.” As it turns out, he has some observations on the current state of the now elusive concept and how our leaders have fallen short.
Benet shares the sentiment of many that the idyllic nature of the American dream is a thing of the past. In coming to this conclusion, Benet delves into the shift in power in America, referencing the transition from the “orange man” to the “old man,” and how it didn’t necessarily result in significant change. Beyond the States, Benet highlights growing divisions amongst people on both a macro and micro scale, honing in on how many have a tendency to “scoll on by” when referencing the latter. As to be expected with Benet, the groove and beat are straight-up filthy, so you’ll definitely want to bust a move while contemplating the impact of recent world power shifts.
Benet also shared a video for the track, which you can watch below.
“American Dream” is the second single from Infinite Desires, which is out on February 29th. You can pre-order the album via Bandcamp. Keep up with Benet by following him on Instagram.
