Little Hag - “Suck Out The Pain”
Asbury Park’s Little Hag are a ball of fury. In the live setting, they’ll rip through song after song with reckless abandon. The band, which is the brainchild of Jersey Shore musical mainstay Avery Mandeville, features several tracks that have been staples of their memorable live performances. “Suck Out The Pain” is one of them, and Mandeville delivers the track with such vigor on the recording that she successfully captures the roller coaster-like peaks and valleys of emotional energy that’s part and parcel of the live experience.
“Suck Out The Pain” has a ferocity that bubbles beneath the surface right from the song’s opening notes. Mandeville’s breathy, foreboding vocals have a horror-flick exposition quality to them, as her tone suggests something explosive is on the horizon. As they allude to, the bottled-up emotion is released from the floodgates at around the one-minute mark, and it keeps on rolling. Mandeville’s vocals swell in intensity, the riffs get crunchier, and there’s even a delectably rippin’ guitar solo toward the end.
