Broken Baby - “It’s Only Rock and Roll (But I Hate It)”
I’ve always loved Broken Baby’s explosive style of music, but I gained a new found appreciation for it when I saw them perform live at Gracie’s Tax Bar in Phoenix last September. On that balmy late summer evening, frontperson Amber Bollinger and guitarist Alex Dezen brought the house down, ripping through a lively and frenetic set of their catchy tunes. Their performance included a rousing rendition of the band’s then latest single, “Make Manager,” a raging critique of powerful men in modern society.
Last week, the Los Angeles-based duo released the follow up to “Make Manager,” a total ripper and somewhat tongue-in-cheek assessment of the current state of rock music called “It’s Only Rock and Roll (But I Hate It).” Bollinger shared the following about the inspiration behind the track:
Are we joking? Kinda. But also, not really. Maybe we should talk about how everyone is a rock star now. I hate it. Rock and roll used to be dangerous. It’s like dinner theater now. But also, who cares. But also, we do. A lot.
Thankfully, Broken Baby are keeping the spirit of boisterous rock and roll alive. “It’s Only Rock and Roll (But I Hate It)” is rife with scorching riffs, raw emotions, and plenty of rock and roll dramatics.
The band also shared a video for the song, which you can watch below.
