Dead Tooth - "Electric Earth"
During my recent interview with Zach Ellis of Dead Tooth, we discussed the increased importance of the project’s live performances over the years. The quality and intensity of a Dead Tooth live show is undeniable. If you’ve had the opportunity to see the band play in the last year, you know it’s an immersive, high-energy affair. That level of freneticism also has slowly, but surely worked its way into the project’s recorded output. The trajectory from their 2018 EP Still Beats to their brand new single, “Electric Earth,” is an upward slope to full-on chaos. At this point, Ellis has perfected the art of capturing the spirited nature of his performances in the recorded form, and “Electric Earth” is a masterclass in how it’s done.
“Electric Earth” simmers in its opening moments, but it’s a ticking time bomb that detonates around the one-minute mark. From there, Ellis takes the reigns and propels the song forward at breakneck speed. His trademark frenzied growl makes the track hum, and it's given further vitality through manic guitar playing and furious rhythms.
The band also shared an absolutely raucous video for the single, which you can watch below.
Dead Tooth is currently on tour with Bass Drum of Death. They’re playing locally on March 31st at Music Hall of Williamsburg and on April 1st at White Eagle Hall in Jersey City. Check out the Dead Tooth Bandsintown page for a full list of dates.
“Electric Earth” is also available on all streaming platforms. Keep up with the project by following them on Instagram.
