Julia Zivic - “Good Cry”

Julia Zivic - “Good Cry”

Hudson Valley-based songwriter Julia Zivic knows very well the power that lies in simplicity.

Her latest single, “Good Cry,” is a prime example of just how much a bare-bones mix of guitars and vocals can resonate. From the track’s opening moments, where Zivic utters “God isn’t here tonight. He’s out on the town.” against a backdrop of light, downstroke guitar strums, there’s a billowing sense of uncertainty that lingers on her every word and an implicit desire to escape it. Written in the midst of cataclysmic events, Zivic focuses on finding solace in the everyday and commonplace, suggesting that sometimes a moment’s peace can help: “We all need to find that good cry. A space to live where we feel right.” She benefits from a much velvetier sounding voice than most of her contemporaries, and it adds even more feelings of comfort to a song that seeks to find respite. There’s serious substance there, both in her words and how she conveys them.

Zivic also shared a video for the song, which you can stream below.

“Good Cry” is the title track from Zivic’s forthcoming full length, which is scheduled for release on May 17th. Pre-save it here.  You can also stream the song on your platform of choice.

Zivic will be performing on the Sultan Room Rooftop on May 18th with Sarah Walk. Tickets are available now.
