Fair Visions - "Channel"
After releasing their excellent debut EP, Lay Out In The Sun, last summer, Fair Visions returned last month with the release of a new track called “Modern Kids.” A few days ago, the project, which is fronted by songwriter Ryan Work, shared another gorgeous tune called “Channel.” The song is the second single from the project’s forthcoming EP, Modern Kids, which is out this Wednesday, September 1st.
Like the songs on their debut, “Channel” is dark and brooding, drawing on the more haunting and pulsating textures of the gothier and more electronic-leaning sides of post-punk and new wave. Work manages to build some serious suspense on “Channel,” as it opens with synths that slowly sprawl until they fade into a few seconds of silence. At this point, the looping beat kicks in, Work introduces some intricate guitars into the mix, and the synths shift from atmospheric to pointed. It definitely has a gloomy, tense vibe, and Work’s cryptic lyrical focus certainly adds to that, as the song’s final refrain acts as a cliffhanger: “I hear a distant cry. It's followed me outside and I feel it's inching closer. Like a channel from a light I can see the end smile. And the pain starts from..”
