Pynkie & Social Media - "Unbelievable"

I’m proud to say that the story of the collaboration between Pynkie and Social Media kinda starts with Look At My Records! Though I’m sure these two talented souls would have crossed paths without this little podcast, John Messina (the man known as Social Media), told me that he first came across Pynkie’s music after hearing her interview and live performance on Episode 65! Messina eventually joined her backing band and the rest is, as they say, history.  Last week, the duo released “Unbelievable,” the first in a string of collaborative singles that sees their two styles and strengths sitting side by side for an ethereal sounding trip. 

“Unbelievable,” is a reflection of both artists' unique talents. Messina is a production wiz, adding an array of effects and all the necessary bells and whistles to give the song an incredibly dense, otherworldly feel. Pynkie has a natural knack for creating pristine sounding, hook-filled melodies that are largely driven by her emotive voice.  Through the added sonic layers on “Unbelievable,” her voice sounds expansive and dynamic, fading in and out of the forefront while surrounded by cosmic sounding synths. The song’s spacey vibe is intentional, as it was inspired by the movie Contact, wherein Jodie Foster travels through a wormhole to a simulation of life constructed from her own memories.  Through this inspiration, Pynkie and Social Media have combined their forces to create a small, sci-fi world of their own on “Unbelievable.”
