Hypemom - "Sports Music"

Hypemom has been around since 2013 and they’ve aged like a fine wine. The post-punk trio released their latest EP, CONCESSIONS, last week and I was immediately drawn to its ferocious lead single, “Sports Music,” which is whirlwind of emotion-laden vocals, fast riffs, and a lively rhythm section.

“Sports Music” features the kind of no-frills emotional punk n’ roll that’ll bust you out of that quarantine slump. The song, quite charmingly, has some elements of second-wave emo that are sure to trigger some nostalgia, particularly, the shout-along “Hey! Hey! Hey” that overlays the chorus and the crafty guitar hooks that follow. Frankly, it sounds like the song could come off a late 90s Jade Tree Comp. That’s a compliment!!
