Bellcave - "Gardenia"
Brooklyn’s Bellcave are a new outfit on the scene, having released their first single, “Limb,” back in October. The dreamy and ethereal track gave us a taste of the band’s airy and translucent shoegaze-inspired sound, which blends swirling guitars with feather light vocals. Today, the band is sharing their second single, “Gardenia,” a song that injects a bit more force and vigor into the atmosphere and showcases the young band’s sonic diversity.
The guitars on “Gardenia” have significant bite, opening with lots of crunch and buzz before frontperson Nicolette Miller’s dark-hued vocals and a fiery rhythm section shuffle in. The combination sets an eerie and ominous tone, which is further accentuated by a descending melody, essentially mimicking the sensation of falling. The band also utilizes captivating loud-quiet dynamics, which allow emotion to ebb and flow through “Gardenia.” The quartet is definitely highlighting their penchant for gloom, fuzz, and downright terror, making this listener excited for what’s in store for future singles.
