Dog In A Man Suit - “My Heart's In The Palm Of Your Hand”
In order to move forward, sometimes you have to dig a little bit into your past. Dog In A Man Suit are doing just that by revisiting their origins. In 2018, the band released their first-ever set of home-recorded tunes as an eponymous 5-song EP, but by their own account, the record sounded a bit rough. “At the time of its creation, we recorded and mixed the EP DIY in Billie and Chris' parents' basement,” says guitarist/vocalist Anjali Nair. “[We] borrow[ed] microphones from their dad's live sound rig and bing[ed] YouTube videos on how the heck to record a drum kit. We didn't really know what we were doing.” But the songs were damn good, so nearly six years later, Dog In A Man Suit sent them off for an aural facelift in the form of a proper remixing and remastering with Adam Haggar of Mount Olympia Mastering. Today, we’re excited to share “My Heart’s In The Palm Of Your Hand,” the first in this series of reimagined songs.
A staple of their set lists over the last few years, the new version of “My Heart's In The Palm Of Your Hand” packs much of the same punch as it does in the live setting. The fuzzy opening riffs and ominous drums set the tone before guitarist/vocalist Billie Seeland takes the reigns, as they sing of a piercing betrayal: “Sweetheart, you must have cut me open / I know I can't feel a thing anymore." This segues into a precision twin guitar attack, with Nair and Seeland entwining their riffs and voices for the surging chorus, which lyrically, centers on shattered trust: "Can't trust my intuition / Can't trust you understand / The knife twists, nothing like it."
The song hits streaming platforms tomorrow, but you can get an early listen below!
