Goo - "Fur"
We’re stoked to premiere “Fur,” the brand new single from Brooklyn indie-folk outfit Goo. The song is the band’s first single since 2019 when they released two excellent EPs, The Squeeze and Under The Electric Blanket. Led by front person Beck Zegans, “Fur” carries on the verdant, psych influenced folk sound that the band explored on their first two releases and takes it to a new, otherworldly level.
“Fur” unravels in a steady, but dramatic fashion. The guitars slowly creep along with ease, sounding homely and familiar amongst spacey drums. The slide guitars spread out and accumulate more and more fuzz as the song progresses, dancing around Zegans’ hard and dark words that expound on our perilous situation with respect to climate change. The second verse is particularly poetic and biting, as she sings: “ blue snow along the pine / thoughtless, loveless, divine / i tasted bleeding wine / triumphant, horrid alive,” acknowledging what Zegans describes as the catastrophic consequences, but still remaining desperately hopeful for change.
“Fur” is the lead single from Goo’s forthcoming debut album Return To The Garden. You can purchase the track via Bandcamp and stream it on Spotify. Keep up with the band by following them on Instagram.
