The Rizzos - "Hambjrgers”

We’re excited to premiere the video for “Hambjrgers” by Brooklyn’s The Rizzos. The Brooklyn trio are the definition of scene mainstays, churning out reliably fuzzy and frenetic garage-pop ditties over the course of the last seven years. But it’s been a hot minute since their last proper release, a dynamite split 7-inch EP with Top Nachos that featured two definite highlights from The Rizzos’ song catalog,  the spritely “Bless This Mess” and the sweet, yet sour “90’s Song.” That was way back in 2018, and now the band is prepping for the release of their second full-length, How It Was, which is out on November 12th via King Pizza Records.

“Hambjrgers” is the second offering from How It Was and it expounds on the frustrations felt by younger generations as they attempt to navigate a complicated and unfair system created by their elders. Though The Rizzos definitely voice some justified anger, they remain undeterred. Against a backdrop of guitar hooks and an infectious vocal melody, the Rizzos perfectly embody feelings of defiance with lines like “I don’t ever wanna give in. The grown-ups played a trick on the kids. I don’t wanna do what you did. I’m gonna have to find what you hid.”

The video, which was directed by King Pizza “Big Cheese” Greg Hanson, is fun, lighthearted, and Halloween-themed - cleverly playing on the young-old dichotomy and the “trick” references in the lyrics. Shot outside of the city, it features all three members trick or treating. Along the way, they encounter a witch (played by Jeanette D. Moses), stick their hands into some mystery boxes, and of course, do a little rocking out. Some spooky shit also goes down, but I won’t spoil it for you. See it for yourself below!

You can pre-order How It Was on limited edition cassette via the King Pizza Records website. You can also purchase the band’s music on Bandcamp or stream it on Spotify. Keep up with The Rizzos by following them on Instagram.

The band will be celebrating the release of How It Was at TV Eye on November 10th with Powersnap and Outernash. Get your tickets now via Eventbrite!
