briis - "Return To Us"

I’ve been consistently impressed with the amount of great music coming out of Norway over the last few years, so I wasn’t too shocked by the fact that I absolutely loved “Return to Us,” the latest single from briis, when it dropped late last month. Lars Husby, the talented multi-instrumentalist behind the project, has the ability to translate raw emotions into his music by mixing the serene elements of folk music with immersive electronic accents, and he showcases it prominently on “Return to Us.” Husby really makes his guitar twinkle on “Return to Us” through his delicate and precise fingerpicking, as he recounts a vivid nightmare during which a close friend morphs into someone completely unrecognizable. While processing the shock, the song steadily pushes forward, as Husby introduces metallic synths and a fuzzy electronic beat that help his aching words land softly, specifically, the crux of the chorus, where he asks “listen, come back with me to reality… please come back to me.” Things end in a dreamlike fashion, as after one last plea of “please return to me,” the song concludes with a gorgeous minute long instrumental finale.
