Triptides - "It Won't Hurt You"
Triptides are in a class of their own when it comes to crafting pristine, sun-soaked psychedelic pop. For over a decade now, they’ve wooed audiences as the standard-bearers of Los Angeles’ 21st century equivalent of the Paisley Underground. Like the groups that dominated that burgeoning psychedelic scene in the 1980s, Triptides are deeply influenced by the songwriters that frolicked through Laurel Canyon during the 1960s, as their songs mix rich guitar jangle, far-out harmonies, and deep, trippy grooves.
If you live on the east coast as I do, then the trio’s latest single, “It Won’t Hurt You,” will help ease those winter blues. Their trademark chiming guitars immediately set in and don’t ease up across the song’s three-minute runtime. Their dynamic guitar interplay takes control during the verses, while some gooey harmonies play a big role in making the choruses extra infectious. Frontman and guitarist Glenn Brigman also busts out a couple of tasty licks that kick the song’s breezy rhythm into high gear, so be on the lookout for them as the song builds up to its climax and then pushes forward to an epic, noodly conclusion.
