Episode 120: Unkle Funkle (Extended Edition)
You can also listen to this episode on your streaming platform of choice via Wavve.
Back in February, I had the chance to chat at length with DIY legend Unkle Funkle. Since the original episode aired on Radio Free Brooklyn, I had to cut it down to 59 minutes, but we had such a great, extensive chat that I wanted to share our whole conversation for all to enjoy. The episode kicks off with some prime cuts from Unkle Funkle’s brand new album, Fuji, and a brand new song from The Memories that’ll appear on their forthcoming album, Pickles & Pie.
Our interview delves into the writing and recording process behind Fuji. We also talked at length about his long history playing and touring the world with several different projects, including The Memories and White Fang. You'll also hear all about his recent move from Los Angeles to New York and the work he's doing at Axis Mundi Records Beach Hut in Rockaway. Plus, we delved into the history of the awesome Gnar Tapes label. We also spun some records from The Everly Brothers, Nas, John Coltrane, and Bruce!
You can purchase Fuji via Bandcamp. His tunes are also available on all streaming services, including Spotify.
